Economic Development

The availability of a qualified workforce is critical to successful economic development. CareerSource Okaloosa Walton works closely with economic development organizations in their efforts to recruit new businesses to the region and to assist new and existing businesses with training and skill upgrades for their employees.

One Okaloosa Economic Development Council
One Okaloosa (formerly Economic Development Council of Okaloosa County) directs efforts toward existing industry, workforce development, and target-industry recruiting with a commitment to the growth and diversity of Okaloosa County.

Walton County Economic Development Alliance
The Walton County Economic Development Alliance (WCEDA) is a public/private organization that aims to provide local and prospective businesses with the tools and resources they need to achieve success. Through partnerships with area organizations, the WCEDA facilitates growth and expansion by supporting current and new businesses. The goal is to develop a vibrant local economy, grow quality jobs and ensure national and global demand for Walton County resources.

CareerSource Okaloosa Walton, through its service providers, issues Individual Training Accounts to eligible job seekers to assist them in gaining the necessary skills to enter the workforce and gain self-sufficiency. The following educational institutions provide training authorized through the board.

Okaloosa County School District
Serves over 30,000 students from pre-kindergarten through adult education with an emphasis on better student performance, better management, and better customer relations.

Okaloosa Public Schools Foundation
A non-profit community-based foundation dedicated to supporting and extending the educational opportunities of all individuals within Okaloosa County through educational enrichment programs; sponsor Take Stock in Children Scholarship programs.

Okaloosa Technical College
Offers technical training programs for both high school students and adult students; offers Performance-Based Diploma Program.

CareerSource Okaloosa Walton works with the TAP personnel on both Eglin Air Force Base and Hurlburt Field to integrate services provided to exiting military personnel by the TAP program, U.S. Department of Labor and U.S. Department of Veterans.

United Way of Okaloosa and Walton Counties
Identifies, evaluates and supports and/or funds human service needs and programs for the citizens of Okaloosa and Walton Counties, including First Call For Help, an information hotline and referral service located in the Fort Walton Beach CareerSource Okaloosa Walton center.

Strives to improve the quality of life for people with developmental disabilities through education, advocacy, and providing opportunities for growth and independence including supported employment programs.

Junior League of the Emerald Coast
Promotes volunteerism, development of women.

Okaloosa County Commission on the Status of Women (OCCSW)
